Time Well Spent: Previews and reviews of mid-Missouri events

THE LATEST IN EVENT TRENDS
Cut Costs with Style: Everyone wants to cut costs these days. Instead of having an open bar, choose a specialty drink that people will talk about. Mojitos with fresh mint leaves in a decorative glass, a peach bellini topped with a strawberry, a sea breeze with a pineapple and cherry, or a favorite drink recipe of the host or hostess. Cheers!
Glass Glamour: No matter how elegant, glasses are usually boring. To fix, carefully dip a glass into colored sugar or salt to coat the rim, twirling the glass around as it's removed. Fill it with champagne, sparkling wine, or a margarita and even a few drops of pomegranate juice for brilliant color. Non-drinkers can join in the toast with a decorative dipped glass filled with fruit juice topped with sparkling water. Enjoy!
Linen Madness: When most people think party, they think white linens. But why? Usually it is no more expensive to rent the colored linen instead of plain white. So for your next party, think color.
It is an essential design tool that can add pizzazz to any party. Choose a linen or satin napkin for some texture contrast to create an elegant atmosphere. Take your event from frumpy to fabulous!

REVIEWS
Opening Rounds of the Big Dance
Where:.Host cities across the United States
When: March 20-24
Why: Who's the best college basketball team? (How can I not work?)
Cost: TV and lots of time
Details: Who has time to attend silent auctions in March? Not with basketball on! While this may not be your typical event, it is no less an event. By definition, an event is a gathering of people for a purpose (usually with drinks). People, check. Purpose, check. Beverages, check and check. As for the event, it has been great—a wonderful combination of beautiful dominance (UNC) and striking upset (See ya, Duke and Davidson). While my bracket has largely weathered the storm (5th of 18 in the Core 20 Pool), it is not without close calls and exciting moments. Yes, I had Duke in the final four (bummer), but I could have had Georgetown winning it all (you know who you are).
Rating: 9/10—Slightly besting both the Super Bowl and MLB playoffs anda little less exciting than the College Football National Championship.
