Hiring

Hemingway's restaurant has hired Jesse Williams as executive chef. Williams is a Columbia native who has been working in restaurants for 15 years. He started washing dishes in the kitchen of the restaurant his parents owned and by high school was working full time and made his decision to become a chef. 

 

Promotion

Columbia College has named Lana Poole the executive director of marketing.  Poole will be responsible for all aspects of the marketing department and will be a member of the administrative council. Poole, who holds a bachelor's degree in organizational communications from Missouri State University and a master's in public administration from the University of Missouri, has 25 years of experience in administration, public relations and marketing.  She was formerly associate director of marketing for Columbia College.  Prior to joining Columbia College in 2007, Poole served as executive director of First Chance for Children where she directed regional early-learning initiatives to increase the number of children who enter school ready to succeed.   Poole also has worked for the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center, the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and the Missouri Division of Highway Safety. 

                       

Appointments

The Boone County National Bank Board of Directors elected Jay Burchfield and Mike Vangel to the board. Burchfield earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Missouri, spent four years with Commerce Bancshares as as a commercial loan officer and worked for eight years with Jeffrey E. Smith Companies. In 2002, he founded WilGate Development, LLC., a firm specializing in investment consulting, development, construction and management of real estate ventures. Vangel is president and chief creative officer for VANGEL, an advertising and public relations firm he founded in 1986. Vangel graduated from the University of Missouri in 1972 and worked for MFA Incorporated from 1973 to 1985.

                Columbia Metro Rotary has inducted the following new members in the first few months of 2009: W. Shane Winter, owner of Winter Financial Counseling; Mike Grellner, commercial broker with Plaza Real Estate. Gary L. Warren, Jr., battalion chief and 13 ½ year veteran of the Columbia Missouri Fire Department; James J. Samorian, business development for MayeCreate and Tranquility Internet; Karen Brown, president of Boone-Central Title Companyl Tim Cox, chief operations officer for IMMVAC Inc., a local life science company that produces vaccines and serums for production and companion animals; and Yolanda Ciolli, owner of AKA:yoLa, a graghic arts and photography business.
