MU College of Business dean stepping down
October 13,2009
Bruce Walker is stepping down as dean of the University of Missouri's Robert J. Trulaske College of Business.
Walker, 65, will have served as dean for 20 years when he leaves the position next summer. Walker will continue to be a full-time faculty member in the marketing department.
Walker announced his resignation to faculty and staff of the business school Monday afternoon.
Walker left a faculty position at Arizona State University for the dean position in June 1990.
During Walker's tenure as dean, the College of Business increased enrollment, began holding classes in the new Cornell Hall building, and hired 85 percent of the current faculty.
Both Chancellor Brady Deaton and Provost Brian Foster praised Walker's leadership over the last 20 years. They said alumni relations are strong and that the school's reputation has made national gains.
Walker said serving as dean has "really been a privilege." Earlier this year, Walker received the 2008 Pacheco Academic Leadership Award, which is presented to one campus administrator from the University of Missouri System every year.
