Landmark Venues
How historical and community-rich locations can increase the success of your next event
Choosing a venue is one of the most important steps in producing a successful and memorable event. It sets the tone for the atmosphere and is a reflection of your goals for the event. This is especially true of landmark venues. Their unique appeal can be a useful tool in creating a one-of-a-kind experience for your guests.
Some of the notable landmark venues in the Columbia area are:
The Columns: Once supporting Academic Hall, the first building erected on the University of Missouri campus, the Columns are now the official symbol of the university. This iconic remnant of architecture was designed by A. Stephens Hills, the same individual who designed the Missouri State Capitol. If you are interested in hosting an outdoor event and want a backdrop guaranteed to make an impact, this is a fantastic location.
The Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts: First opened in 1928, the Missouri Theatre was said to be a "show house of unrivaled beauty." The theater has remained one of Columbia's leading entertainment galleries for decades. It has recently been restored to its original grandeur and is an accommodating venue for countless types of events. It is the epitome of elegance and lends itself well to formal and semi-formal events.
The YouZeum: The YouZeum is mid-Missouri's only interactive health science center. Located in what was once a historical federal building, the YouZeum is home to multiple event spaces and meeting facilities. This unique approach to learning is a great venue if you are hoping to foster creativity and development. Your guests certainly wouldn't be bored in a venue like the YouZeum.
