United Way making final fundraising push
The Heart of Missouri United Way launched its second-annual Live United campaign today. There will be a series of activities this week to help the United Way reach its fundraising goal.
The activities include three Dining Out for United Way events. They are being held at Shakespeare’s Pizza on Tuesday, CiCi’s Pizza on Thursday and Chevy’s Fresh Mex on Friday.
Mizzou is kicking-off its United Way fundraising campaign at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday with a pancake breakfast in the MU Athletics Training Complex. The midnight breakfast is open to anyone in the community and people are encouraged to bring donations.
There also will be a fundraising competition between MU and the University of Kansas. Students at each university will have 48 hours, on Wednesday and Thursday, to collect change for their United Way agencies. MU and KU Student United Way organizations are organizing the challenge.
Students will be collecting change Wednesday and Thursday at Speakers Circle and Lowry Mall on the MU campus. On Thursday evening there will be a LIVE UNITED event to raise awareness of the campaign. MU faculty, staff and students will march through the campus to the event. The United Way encourages participants to wear the Live United shirts that can be purchased at Schnucks of the Scout Shop for $10.
