Farmers Market extends season

November 17,2009

Local farmers will be able to sell their produce directly to Columbia residents for an extra month. The Columbia Farmers Market is extending its season into December, instead of closing just before Thanksgiving. The 2009 season was scheduled to end on Nov. 21, but will go through Dec. 19 on a trial basis.

The market will not be open the weekend after Thanksgiving but will be open on the first three Saturday mornings in December. The market policies will not change during this trial period and all products must still be sold directly by the grower/producer, and be grown/produced within about a 55-mile radius of Columbia.

Market goers can expect the market selection to include lamb, pork, beef, eggs, winter and greenhouse vegetables, honey, locally made chocolate and baked goods. (www.columbiafarmersmarket.org)
