Downtown Columbia gallery and crafts store closing

January 26,2008

The Spare Parts Gallery at 8 S. Ninth St. plans to close at the end of February.

Spare Parts Gallery, which opened nine months ago, is owned and managed by four artists — Lisa Bartlett, Stephanie Foley, Doug Freeman, and Jessie Lawson. The store specializes in antique and vintage furniture and household items.

An email from the four owners said, "we are going to have to move on because of our own individual requirements and priorities, financial and vocational. We would love to see Spare Parts continue, and judging from what we've heard, plenty of other people in the community feel the same way. The Gallery would be an ideal business for a close-knit group of working artists and craftspeople who produce a lot of saleable items. The location is terrific and the rent is, too."
